The most important function of government is to protect citizens from crime and violence. Burt Saunders has always proudly supported full funding of the sheriff’s budget resulting in Collier County being the safest county in Florida.

Fighting for Our Veterans

Initiated the development of a state-operated 120-bed Veterans Nursing Home to provide essential services for our veterans in need of adult day healthcare and rehabilitation services.

Improving Infrastructure

Developed funding sources for vital infrastructure projects, including roads, parks, storm water improvements, and County facilities, to better serve the public. Today, roadway improvements are planned and funded to alleviate the County’s problems.

Stopping Overdevelopment

Led the way to implement a moratorium on rezones to help control and manage growth.

Improving our Neighborhoods

Fought for the acquisition of the Golden Gate water and sewer system, providing residents with Collier County water and wastewater services and eliminating failing septic tanks.

Protecting Our Environment

Championed the re-establishment of the Conservation Collier Program to safeguard valuable environmental lands from development.

Addressing Mental Health Needs

Sought funding for a mental health “receiving” center managed by David Lawrence Mental Health to address the critical need for mental health services in our community.

Increasing Local Representation

Sought consideration on restructuring County government to ensure that the Commission considers county impacts of their decisions.
